Plate Surrender

When a vehicle is no longer needed to be on the road, the plate need to be returned to the DMV first, then you can cancel the insurance for the vehicle. There will be a penalty from DMV if the insurance canceled before the plate surrendered. 

License Plate can be surrendered to DMV in same day. A official DMV receipt (FS6T) will the provided to confirm transaction. You need FS6T to cancel your auto insurance.
